Romero Barceló

Last Sunday I covered the Puerto Rican State Department’s celebration for Constitution Day. The invited speaker was Ex Governor Don Carlos Romero Barceló, a polemic figure in Puerto Rican politics. For some he is a symbol of militant pro-statehood and for others he is implicated in the Cerro Maravilla killings. Hearing him speak was definitely interesting. What struck me the most is the marked shift in rhetoric the pro-statehood party is exhibiting. It seems to me they have really taken to conservative and militant anti-colonialist stance on most issues. Here are some of the images that didn’t make it into the paper.
