It’s a Wrap.
The end of a very busy semester comes to an end. Shooting on Capitol Hill has made me grow immensely as a person and as a photographer. Watching the veteran photographers shoot has truly been a learning experience. I’ve learned how to keep fresh and look for angles even when they seems all exhausted. I’ve also learned patience and persistence. Capturing moments has nothing to do with composition or mechanics it has all to do with choosing what to see and waiting to capture it.
Over the last month or so I have been producing a short video on how Capitol Hill is covered. The video is a “behind the scenes” of sorts. I hope to have it finished in the next couple of days. It has been extremely challenging learning how to produce multimedia with my 5D Mark II and a audio recorder but I think it will turn out decent. Furthermore, the press galleries in the Capitol is a world few people get to witness. Hopefully the video will bring the experience to viewers.
Over the summer I will be freelancing in Puerto Rico for El Nuevo Día. A lot of things are happening on the island. University students have been on strike for over a month protesting massive budget cuts and talks of privatization, subsequently they have lost the semester. Marches and small riots have erupted around the university. The political climate is really tense with even more government employee lay offs planned for the coming month.
As soon as I land I plan on covering the strike. This summer I plan on focusing on reportages, producing essays that are both informative and telling. I have a couple of ideas lined up so more on that as I start shooting.
