NYT Assignment: Mitt Romney's Layoffs
Last Thursday I got an email to photograph a pharmaceutical plant here in Puerto Rico that closed in the mid 90’s. The assignment called for quite a bit of reporting because we had no idea where the plant was. A chance phone number and two of shooting days later I found out just how deeply affected the small town of Aguada was as a result of a business deal by presidential hopeful Mitt...

Santurce es Ley
Last Saturday I attended Santurce es Ley, an art festival that aims “take back” the city with art installation across the Santurce borough of San Juan. Santurce once the center for art and commerce has fallen into disrepair and neglect. Crime and discrimination are commonplace in the, mostly dominican, immigrant communities that live in the area. These two images got me thinking...

On Tour: STP Crew
The production buses are are the heart of the tour. These guys are the backbone of any live show. From the lighting to the instrument techs each one is crucial to making sure that when the band takes the stage things work properly. They deal with the band on a daily basis and spend the most time working: setting up in the morning, making sure everything stays set up and taking down everything at...
On Tour: The Pit
As the week on tour with STP went along a lot of the visual variety came from the crowds. The shows were mostly the same so to keep the images I was filing fresh I spent time documenting the crowds. The Syracuse Krockathon was by far the craziest, here are the selects from that.
On Tour: STP Live
For a week at the end of July I was hired by Blurb to document part of the Stone Temple Pilot’s 2011 Summer Tour. Waking up in a new city every morning and living on the road in an plush tour bus with insanely talented techs was truly an amazing experience. Here are some of the selects from the live shows.

Obamarican
Two Mondays ago I had the immense privilege of documenting President Obama’s trip to Durham, Miami, and San Juan on assignment for the Puerto Rican Newspaper El Nuevo Día. The visit to Puerto Rico marked the first presidential visit since Kennedy. My images ran on seven pages in El Nuevo Día and were picked up by the Associated Press. One 15 minute, one 10 minute, four 30 second photo-ops...

Best of 2010
2010 was a big year. Riots in Puerto Rico, shooting on the Hill and around DC have been pure growth. It has been great really focusing on my work and telling stories. That said, the past two years of just shooting news has me really itching to get out and do some documentary projects. This summer I will be traveling and doing just that which is very exciting.
This last semester I plan on...

Drag Race
Every year right before Halloween the gay bars in Dupont Circle host the “Drag Race.” Needless to say no cars are involved. About one hundred drag queens show up to show off their costumes and test their running skills; all in high heels. Here are some of the frames I shot during this year’s race. Last year I helped my buddy Nick Gingold out with his portrait project on the...
Rep. Luis Gutierrez
On Wednesday I made various portraits of Representative Luis Gutierrez for El Nuevo Día. Even though I had only about 15 minutes with him I really got a sense of what he had been through as a community leader in the latino neighborhoods of Chicago. Having his house burned down by a molotov cocktail is just one of the things he endured. Read the full story here (in spanish). (Christopher...
Mari Carmen Aponte
Appointed by a presidential vote of confidence as ambassador to El Salvador, Mari Carmen Aponte became the first Puerto Rican ambassador of this administration. Jose Delgado, the Washington correspondent for El Nuevo Día, and I spent a few hours with her at her home in the Van Ness Neighborhood of Washington. I have grown a bit frustrated with falling into a very particular feel shooting my zoom...
One Nation Rally
On September 30th various unions and civil rights groups descended on the National Mall for a rally including politicians, community organizers and union leaders. I went primarily to get some shots of Rep. Gutierrez apart from the portraits so did not focus on covering the event. Waiting for Gutierrez I made these two images on the West Lawn of the Capitol Building. (Christopher Gregory/El...

Taylor Hubbard Memorial Service
Christopher Gregory/GW Hatchet
On Wednesday I shot a memorial service held for Taylor Hubbard, a GW engineering student who tragically fell 4 stories to his death last May. The service was pretty emotional friends of Taylor related memories and consoled each other. At the end of the ceremony white balloons were released after a moment of silence. Read the full story and see a slide show of my...

Reclaiming the Dream
Last Sunday, my first day back in DC, I covered Rev. Al Sharpton’s “Reclaim The Dream Rally”. The rally was announced in responce to conservative Fox News host Glenn Beck’s own “Restoring Honor” rally at the Lincoln Memorial. Sharpton and other prominent african american figures were appalled that Beck would choose to hold his rally on the 47th aniversary of...
Coralis
I wanted to share a breaking news story I covered on Wednesday. I was sent to the house of Coralis Campos Rodríguez, mother of two. Tuesday night, in a fit of rage she stabbed her one year old son and three year old daughter. The assignment was intense to say the least. Here is a link to the article but the red links above will take to you the photo galleries and videos. (Chris Gregory/El...
Rocky Martínez
A couple of shots of a feature the paper ran on Rocky Martínez the 130 pound world champ who will be defending his title in September in Scotland. I followed him on his morning run which lasted the hour of dawn. (Chris Gregory/El Nuevo Día)
Little Lads
This past Sunday I covered a island wide youth basketball tournament aptly named the Little Lads and Lassies Basketball Tournament. Here is a snapshot from the assignment. (Chris Gregory/El Nuevo Día)
Wilito
After the passing in June of William Miranda Marín, the mayor of Caguas, fierce campaigns were started to try and replace the beloved progressive leader. One by his son Wilito and the other by Conny Varela. Here Wilito is seen in a caravan through the neighborhoods of Caguas. Covering this event, it was obvious that his charisma and the legacy his father left gave him a connection to the people....

Red carpets are never fun to cover, at least thats been my experience. The trick is to try and convey the madness for entertainment. (Chris Gregory/El Nuevo Día)
Iván Calderón
On Friday I covered a number of assignments but wanted to share some images from a preparatory weighing for Puerto Rican boxer Iván Calderón. The gym was really dark but there were these pocket of light that had a really beautiful quality to them. I waited for Iván to step into them and this is the result.

Romero Barceló
Last Sunday I covered the Puerto Rican State Department’s celebration for Constitution Day. The invited speaker was Ex Governor Don Carlos Romero Barceló, a polemic figure in Puerto Rican politics. For some he is a symbol of militant pro-statehood and for others he is implicated in the Cerro Maravilla killings. Hearing him speak was definitely interesting. What struck me the most is the...

Marcha contra la represión
Last Sunday a massive march took to the Hato Rey area of San Juan to protest the “acts of repression” occurred on June 30th at the Capitol Building. Traffic was paralyzed for the greater part of the day starting around noon. The huge demonstration composed of students, families and elderly citizens marks one of the largest mobilization since the national strike last year. Thankfully...
Motín
On Wednesday June 30th various student groups and activists set out to peacefully “take back the Capitol Building” after the President of the Senate Thomas Rivera Schatz closed the galleries to the public and press. I decided to use the demonstration to test my new Zoom H4n audio recorder and wet my feet before I jumped into a few multimedia projects. Little did I know what a peaceful student...

It's a Wrap.
The end of a very busy semester comes to an end. Shooting on Capitol Hill has made me grow immensely as a person and as a photographer. Watching the veteran photographers shoot has truly been a learning experience. I’ve learned how to keep fresh and look for angles even when they seems all exhausted. I’ve also learned patience and persistence. Capturing moments has nothing to do with...
